Coolmaine
Cork Best Wind Direction: West Beach Faces: South Best Tide: All Shore Type: Sand Courtmacsherry bay includes 3 main spots to launch from. Harbour View Beach, Coolmaine and Harbour View Slipway. Harbour View is a wave/slalom spot with good parking but a long walk when the tide is out. Coolmaine is a smaller beach opposite. These two spots work in most directions but south and southwest are best. The slipway is more of a bump and jump and slalom spot which works in west, east and northwest winds. The slipway is privately owned and has limited parking. Directions:Head southwest from Cork towards Bandon and take the by-pass (the first exit at the roundabout) and head to the end of the road and head left towards Kilbrittain and drive straight through the Village until you get to the sea there is a causeway on the right go over it and then Harbour View beach will be on your left.

This is where I learned to windsurf and I think Burren pier is brilliant for beginners in a westerly or easterly wind and coolmaine is good for wave sailing. nice long stretch to blast back and forth from. there are two carparks to rig up in. one on either side of coolmaine. watch out for the estuary though when in the 3rd and 4th hour of incoming and outgoing tide. It can be quite strong in Spring tides. I personally have never had an issue with seaweed but the sandbank collapsed last time I was there unless that has altered the state of the beach.
There is a lot of weed around.
