Lough Ennell Fun Event

After a respite of decades windsurfing slalom races return to the Midlands of Ireland. Lough Ennell was host to numerous national championships ‘back in the day’ and the Bat Whitelaw has resurrected the event for the 2011 calendar. The Irish Slalom series competitors are descending on the midlands for the weekend which is lining up to be a great event (say nothing but it looks like wind). The weekend is not a ranked event so the emphasis will be on new competitors and the more social side of windsurfing which the ISS has been synonymous with over the past couple of years.

This Saturday (13th of August) sees fun racing taking place on Lough Ennell followed by a delicious BBQ and copious amounts of fine beverage in Danny Byrne’s Pub, Mullingar. The forecast for the weekend is looking perfect for Lough Ennell which has a combination of flat water mixed with some interesting bump and jump! The lake works in all conditions but the meeting point will be Ladestown, Mullingar. (Directions below)

This event is for everyone and a great way of introducing people to racing. First race is scheduled for 11am on Saturday morning, with first briefing at 10.15am. Numbers are expected to be strong with flights rearranged from Fuerteventura, buses being organised from the North and well known sailors from around the country travelling for the night.

If you haven’t attended an event before and would like to try it, Mullingar is the perfect one. Right in the centre of Ireland, it won’t be beat for windsurfing.
Don’t forget to bring your party outfit, Hawaiian shirts and dresses are a must (girls too)!

Directions are below but if you need more details, or get lost contact Barry Whitelaw on 087 829 6722
(Please text Barry, on number above, or email  barrywhite777(at)hotmail.com  , to let me know if you're coming as I need to get numbers for the BBQ, thanks)

I'll get a list of nearby accommodation tomorrow morning and will post up.

See you Saturday
