ISS 2009 Round 5, Garrylucas August 15th/16th

ISS 4 Downings

August 15th and 16th saw the Irish Slalom Series travel to Co.Cork for Round 5 of what has been a fantastic year so far. With wind at every event this year Cork would prove no different. Saturday morning dawned with a fresh SW breeze. The ISS team hit the road at 7am in search of the most suitable beach. With insufficient breeze in Coolmaine, the event was moved to GarryLucas. By 9am, local event organiser Pearse Geaney (www.bigsurf.ie) was kitting out the beach for the days racing.

Miles of sandy beaches, 100 + entrants, friendly people and great Guinness – yep you guessed it’s that time of year when the vast majority of Irish windsurfers hit the road for one of the best weekends of the year. Last weekend saw one of the biggest and most successful Irish windsurfing events take place on the North West Coast of Donegal. Competitors travelled from all corners of the country and the UK to experience Ireland’s largest competitive windsurfing event.

ISS 3 Kerry

Round three of the Irish Slalom Series (ISS) took place on June13th/ 14th at the world famous windsurfing location of Brandon Bay, Co. Kerry. Based just outside the small village of Castlegregory on the Maharees peninsula the event was hosted by Jamie Knox Watersports. With a poor wind forecast throughout the week, some regular faces of the series choose to risk not taking the long journey south – boy did they miss out on a great weekend!
