Kinvara Event Report
by: David Minton
Tracht beach in Kinvara, Co Galway was the final location of the 2010 Irish Slalom Series. A massively successful year in terms of numbers and participants the final event was going to be a success, wind or no wind. Unfortunately for the numbers who travelled we got the only wind-less weekend for months. However, as usual that never stopped the event organisers in Galway putting on a good show.
Danny Mulryan and Alessia Stocca as usual organised the perfect weekend. Run over the October Bank Holiday weekend, traditionally acquainted with wind, chop and small sails, we were extremely unlucky not to have any racing. But as usual with these events it didn’t stop the ISS fleet from taking to the water.

Almost 40 competitors took part at Round 4 of the Irish Windsurfing Championships in Bantry Bay, held over the weekend of the 14-15th August 2010. The turn out was excellent considering the weather forecast for the weekend was for very light winds and soaring temperatures.
Bantry Bay was not only a new location for the Irish Slalom Series, but use of the Bantry Airfield for a windsurfing competition was never before completed. A lucky few had been able to sample the event site a few weeks before hand, and those who did, knew there was great potential for a thrilling competition. The local town representatives were out in force too to welcome us, with Bantry Town Mayor paying us a visit at the "opening ceremony" or briefing.

Over a hundred sailors turned out for another weekend of top class wind conditions for the annual Downings Windsurfing Event. Conditions in Sheephaven Bay on Saturday morning were perfect and looked good for a day of competitive sailing in Round 3 of the Irish Slalom Series event. Wind speeds of 20 knots were recorded and the fight was on for the title of Irish Champion.

March 27th - 28th saw the round one of the Irish Slalom Series (ISS) kick off at Newtownards Sailing Club, Co. Down. A poor forecast may have dampened spirits in the run up to the weekend, but come Saturday morning, the wind filled in for what turned out to be a great weekend of slalom racing for the near 60 entrants.
